Bio: Photography Beginnings

Bullock first took up photography in 1882 after attending a lecture by British photographer John Carbutt. Bullock quickly developed a passion for the subject. He joined the Photographic Society of Philadelphia in 1882 and in 1890 was elected President of the organization. As he developed his photography skills and became more active in the field, Bullock began to display his work at various exhibitions, both at home and in Europe. His images focused heavily on the countryside and rural life, to which he felt a strong personal connection.
